first cooking experiment of the year

the beautiful scene of hearsall common on a cold winter's day... goodbye 2005...

and hello 2006! on new year's day, josh and i ended up wearing matching t-shirts to church! haha... me and my funky new top that i bought in KL and he and his favourite French Connection shirt. note that his stripes are green and blue while mine are brown and turquoise but they look sooooo alike! :)
anyway, my first cooking experience of 2006 (warming up croisants for breakfast in the grill doesnt count) was BAKED RICE! yes yes, trying to recreate the NYDC dish that i love!
sadly in tocil, we only had pyrex bowls so it ended up with loads of rice and only very little cheese. it turned out nice but too much rice = too little sauce + loads unfinished because it is such a rich dish. sigh. must do more tweaking to get it right. i put uncooked rice with a can of cream of mushroom (water added to make it into a proper serving of soup before pouring it in), sauteed onions and ham - once the rice is cooked, i added the cheese on top to melt.

points to note for NEXT attempt:
1. less rice to one can of soup
2. remember to add that capsicum that i kept reminding myself to put in
3. thinner layer of rice i.e. use a dish rather than a bowl
4. perhaps try with some tomato based sauce rather than cream?

leftover rice will be eaten with today's cooking experiment - hawaiian chicken! :)
