Warwick in Singapore

i picked up a copy of the Warwick Boar, the student newspaper today and it was very interesting to read about the 'Warwick in Singapore' saga. yes it is a saga and because of it, EVERYONE knows of Singapore now. hilarious, aint it?

anyway, there have been huge debates and forums about whether the university should set up a campus in Singapore. the Vice-Chancellor (i.e. the big boss of the uni) is for it but most of the staff dont think it will work out/strongly oppose/apathetic about it.

and can you believe this? they want to charge students at the campus international fees (which is what i am paying now in the UK). so if i were a Singaporean and i wanted to study at Warwick in Singapore, i'd have to pay S$33,000 a year. come on lah, if i had to pay that, i might as well come to the UK, right? just have to pay a bit more for accomodation and living expenses, which as a student in Singapore you'd have to pay anyway...

and the university has already spent GBP800,000 (100% over-budget) for a feasibility study. spend it on upgrading the university's arts department building! sigh.
