Malacca = way too much food and free time

we arrived in Malacca in time for a late lunch (by which time we were STARVING!) and wandered around the streets behind the hotel (en route to Jonker Walk - my parents 'die die' wanted to find this Teochew restaurant that they had delicious suckling pig at the last time) and chanced upon this little coffee shop that looked a)crowded [which is always a sign of good food] and b)was clean-looking [because some other places were a bit too dubious] and c) had an airy interior [is it just me or is Malacca really hot?]
so i tried their specialty which was curry noodles. it came with yellow noodles, tau pok, potatoes and beef. was surprised to have beef in my noodles but it was quite nice, albeit tough.
my brother had the pork chop rice (very hainanese) - pork chop with a tomato-ish sauce over it, served with rice.
my parents had hor fun and mui fan (my dad dug in before i got the chance to take a nice picture) which was good because they had the nice 'burnt' taste that is ESSENTIAL to good ju cha food.

the servings was pretty reasonable for the price but i wish they could have been bigger- the servings were in general small if you think of the price as numerically equal to Singapore's but for the Ringgit price (coverted to SGD) it was more than you'd expect.

anyway, it being a Monday meant that a lot of the nice food places were closed for dinner. we decided to try the restaurant in the hotel called Capers (which is apparently supposed to be good - according to Malaysia Tatler) because they had Hot Stone which we havent had in Singapore since i was a TINY kid. somehow there doesnt seem to be any nice Hot Stone places in Singapore anymore (i welcome any reccommendations!)...

i think the waitress was amused that all of us ordered Hot Stone (hehe...). We were served a basket of bread with butter and a salsa of tomatoes, onions, salt, pepper and loads of olive oil.
i had a tenderloin that came with a tomato and rings of onion (to be grilled), and 3 different sauces - mushroom, black pepper and bernaise.
the Hot Stone dishes all came with a side of sauteed vegetables and a small baked potato.
dinner was YUMMY but not that filling ('tis fine dining...) so we adjourned to the Lounge downstairs to have CAKE! and washed them down with some cocktails. we actually had to order the cake from the Cookie Corner and get it sent to the Farmosa Lounge but hey... it was all good...
from top left corner (clockwise): marble cheesecake, some chocolate cake, strawberry cheesecake. sadly i didnt get to take a picture of the cakes before they were 'attacked' because we were all too excited about CAKE!
my dad, mom and brother enjoying cocktails in the BIG COMFY sofas and armchair... ahh the life...
